# Workspaces

> A workspace is one property in Kitospace — the container that holds its units, reservations, guests, members, and settings.

## What is a workspace?

A **workspace** is one property, site, or building you operate. It is the boundary around everything that belongs to that property: its units (rooms, apartments, spaces), its reservations and guests, its cleaning missions, its members, and its own settings.

When you are working in Kitospace, you are always inside exactly one workspace. The **Units**, **Calendar**, **Reservations**, and **Cleaning** pages all show that workspace's data and nothing else.

## How do workspaces fit together?

| Level            | What it holds                                                                   |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Organization** | Your company account: billing, members, roles, and every workspace you own. |
| **Workspace** | One property: its units, reservations, guests, missions, members, and settings. |
| **Unit** | One individual space inside that property. |

<Note>
  Members belong to the Organization, but access is granted per workspace. Someone can be a manager in one property and have no access at all to another.
</Note>

## How do I create a workspace?

Workspaces are created from the **Organization** area, not from inside a workspace.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Organization">
    Use the workspace switcher or **Switch workspace** in your account menu and choose **Organization**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go to Workspaces">
    Select **Workspaces** in the sidebar to see every workspace your Organization owns.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create it">
    Click **Create workspace**, give it a **name** — for example *Downtown Hotel* — and confirm.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Alongside the name you set a **slug**. The slug becomes the workspace's web address, so keep it short and recognisable. Renaming the workspace later changes those addresses, so pick a name you can live with.

## What can I configure per workspace?

Workspace configuration lives in **Settings** inside the workspace, split across tabs:

| Tab | What you set there |
| -------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Info** | Name, logo and brand colour, primary contact, and workspace members. |
| **Operations** | Check-in and check-out times, autonomous check-in/out, availability exceptions, and the workspace's subdomain and custom domains. |
| **Settings** | Location, time zone, currency, default language, and how you sell. |
| **Manage** | Archiving and restoring the workspace. |

Time zone, currency, default language, branding, and the primary contact can be inherited from the Organization. A field left empty shows an **Inherited from** badge and follows the Organization's value, so you only override what is genuinely different at this property.

**How you sell** decides how the property appears on sales channels: *One property with multiple rooms* — a hotel, guesthouse or B\&B listed once with its rooms inside — or *Separate independent rentals*, where each holiday home or apartment gets its own listing. This is set during workspace creation and cannot be changed later.

## Why would I have more than one workspace?

* **Several properties** — one workspace per hotel, building, or holiday-home cluster keeps availability, calendars, and cleaning separate.
* **Different operating rules** — properties in different time zones, currencies, or with different check-in times each get their own settings.
* **Separate teams** — housekeeping and front-desk staff only see the property they actually work at.
* **A property you're onboarding** — build it out quietly without it appearing in the live operation.

<Tip>
  Give workspaces the names your team already uses out loud — the building, street, or town — not internal codes. Everyone reads that name in the switcher, on invoices, and in the web address, and a recognisable name is what stops staff acting in the wrong property.
</Tip>

## How do I switch workspaces?

If you have access to more than one workspace, a **workspace switcher** sits at the bottom of the sidebar showing the property you are in. Open it and pick another to move across; the whole app follows you.

**Switch workspace** in your account menu opens the full **Choose a workspace** page, which lists every workspace you can reach plus the **Organization** itself.

## What happens when a workspace is archived?

Archiving hides a workspace and removes member access to it immediately — its units and reservations become unreachable. Membership assignments are kept, and the action is reversible: an Organization admin can restore the workspace at any time.

<Warning>
  Archiving signs every member out of that property at once. Confirm with your team before archiving a workspace that is still in use.
</Warning>
